Magic Lantern's Program
Daily Routine
Magic Lantern’s hours are 8:00 am–5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
The morning curriculum begins at 9:00 am, and the afternoon program ends at
4:00 pm. The morning routine emphasizes Montessori work and outdoor play and
includes a morning snack and lunch. The afternoon is built around our creative
arts program (art, music and imaginative play) with quiet/nap time and a snack.
Food
We strive to provide an appropriate, healthy diet centered on whole, organic
foods. We are a vegetarian school; ample protein is offered in the form of
beans, legumes, dairy products and whole grains. Refined sugars are
avoided. Children help prepare their snacks and lunches each day, and are
asked not to bring food from home into the classroom. We can accommodate
specific food allergies, including instituting a nut-free school policy if
necessary.
Staff
Magic Lantern is fortunate to have assembled an energetic, enthusiastic teaching team. Day-to-day operations at Magic Lantern Montessori are run by Kimberly Coffin, our interim director. The staff includes Connie Ostrowski, lead Montessori teacher and program supervisor, Kathy Quenzer, lead creative arts teacher, Allison Badertscher, our cooking teacher and Reshonna Booker, Ariana Corrado and Marmot Snetsinger, our assistants.
School Calendar
Magic Lantern operates year-round. The school year begins the first week in
September, and ends in August. We plan three one-week breaks each year.
Emergencies or Unscheduled Closures
If the Seattle Public School System closes schools due to snow or inclement
weather, Magic Lantern will close as well. If there is an emergency during
the school day, parents will be called. School closure information can be
found on the Seattle Public School
website.
